Conservative estimates suggest that over 150,000 people have died in the war in Sudan. Over 10 million people have been displaced since 2023. Millions more face a catastrophic famine. What’s more, the geopolitical consequences are considerable.

While tragic conflicts happen in Gaza and Ukraine, the war in Sudan looms large.

Wrong place, wrong time

The Horn Of Africa

Situated next door to the Horn Of Africa, Sudan also has 800 km of the Red Sea as it’s coastline. It’s position makes it an incredibly volatile state, alongside the humanitarian disaster that is taking place right now.

Sudan is part of the network of states in the northeast of Africa that is closest to the Middle East. Across the water are Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The two forces that are currently fighting in Sudan, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) allegedly have links with Middle Eastern states, as well as support from European states. Russia has a hand in things too.
